I love when the final effect of a DIY is inversely proportional to the time it takes to make it! This DIY is super simple and the finale result is beautiful, perfect as a hostess gift (I’d love the receive one!!)
I poured the candles myself but you could totally use this technique on a bought candle (careful to buy soy or bees wax and not paraffin that could be dangerous for your health!)
To make your DIY Gold foil candles you need:
- Soy wax (available here or here) 400 g fill up the equivalent of my small glass
- Various glass containers ( I used a glass and vase found in a thrift shop)
- gold foil
- modge podge
Difficulty : easy
Time : 1.5 episodes of Gilmore Girls If you pour your own candles)
Waiting time : A few hours to a full night the let the was harden
1- Start by making your candles, foil them once ready (I did the opposite and it’s a bad idea because you could get was on your foil!)
Just melt your wax and install your wick, pour the wax and use sticks to hold the wick while the was hardens. This video explains the steps
2- Now that your candles are ready, Get your material out to make your gold foil
3- You just need to apply a think coat of modge podge (section by section) and add a piece of gold foil at a time.
You can try to make perect pieces of try a more “old” look (easier!)
4- When you’ve covered the bottom, let dry a bit and add a coat of varnish on top. * You have less risk of ripping the foil by going top to bottom than left right! But i liked having bits come off.
Leave to dry and it’s ready!
For the tutorial for the stockings it’s over here!
