The 90s trend is FULL ON in Montreal, chokers, crop top, platform shoes it’s the return of the spice girls. I’m having a hard time joining the fun … I feel like it was over so recently…how can it be back so soon ?!
I don’t think I’ll ever dress like my childhood idols but I will take certain elements and incorporate them into my personal style.
The choker is perfect example… and the velvet!
What elements from the 90’s will you take or leave?
These two chokers are easy to make, here’s what you need:
- velvet ribbon
- Miyuki beads
- white bugles
- Miyuki : gold, light gold, metallic pink
- gold cube
- black sewing thread
- sewing needle
- Crimp ends for ribbon (1 pair per necklace)
- Lobster clasp
- Jump rings
- Extension chain
Time : 2 episodes of Friends
Difficulty : Easy to intermediate
Measure a piece of ribbon about 2cm shorter than your neck circumference
Tie a knot at the end of a piece of thread and insert it in your needle. Thread your needle, put in a bead and thread back as close to the bead as you can. Then embroider another bead and another until you’ve covered your ribbon using different colors at random.
For the second one, I embroidered beads the same way but made a pattern.
Then crimp your end pieces to each end and tie a clasp and an extension chain.
The other necklaces are also DIY
The black dress is a DIY refashion coming next week!
