Simple dainty gold necklaces… so simple I took me years to make them. I wanted them to last though… stop making necklaces that I would just throw out a few weeks later because they’d tanish and discolor. And then I discovered….. gold filled !! It’s like plated gold but it’s a treatment that is even more resistant and I confirm!! (If you take them off to sleep and shower of course)
I’m talking about this in complete sincerity. I was so tired of spending time making jewelry that just didn’t last… this is the beginning of a new era and I couldn’t be happier!
- gold filled chain extra fine or fine
- jump rings
- rose gold chain
- curved tube (mine id from thaïland, similar here)
- zirconia spacer bead
- ends hook or gold clamp / rose gold clamp
- extension chain
- copper wire
- beads or pendants : faceted beads and gold circle are from thailand (bought here)
- pliers : flat et cut
The steps to making these DIY dainty gold necklaces are really easy
For the necklace with faceted beads, start bu opening your jump ring with pliers.
Then insert in one of the chain ends. With the mini rings and mini chain it’s possible, yo just need good eyesight and a bit of patience.
Insert your beads before inserting a ring at the other end of the chain.
Add clasps before closing the rings (careful to close well, the chain is so small that even a tiny space could have it fall apart)
For a longer necklace simply close the chain with one small ring and just slide over your head.
With a chain a bit bigger you can attach a pendant
For the rose gold nechlace, insert copper wire into the tube and create a loop at each end.
Attach your chain at each end
Attach clasp at one end and extension chain on the other end.
voila!
Worn here with my DIY poncho and DIY rings
You may have noticed on my instagram I wear then ALL the TIME (since I made them in MARCH) and they’re in perfect condition!

Love the dainty necklace tutorial. It looks so pretty. I wanted to try making my own jewelry, but just have a quick question. In your experience, do you find it cheaper to make your own than to buy?
