I’m so excited to be posting this article! I am in LOVE with this DIY poncho inspired by maje (total copy to be honest). When I saw this poncho on their instagram I immediately wanted to make one ans miracle.. I stumbled accross this beautiful striped fabric at fabricville (hidden between some very ugly stuff!). When i saw I knew it would be the one and would become the most beautiful beach (and city) poncho of all times. Especially since only 200 of the original maje exclusive we’re available and already sold out!
Supplies
- striped fabric (I used this one)
- men’s tuxedo (paid 14 $ in thrift shop)
- sewing machine and thread
- black ribbon (enough to tie around your waist and)
1- Start by folding your fabric in hald and cutting the first layer, in the the middle.
2- Cut out the jacket’s collar
3- Hem the collar
4- open up the clit you cut to create an opening (about 15 cm) and hem.
5- Sew your collar inside the fabric so it folds over (like a regular collar)
6- Fray your fabric over about 5 cm (use a pin to make it easier)
6- Hem the bottom and sew a straight line so it doesn’t keep fraying
7- Add your ribbon belt. I just tied it around my waist but Imight add some button holes for it to go through.
Wear it to the beach, or with jeans! I’m excited to experiment with it!
