Yes. I turned granny panties into a sexy DIY top… and I have to admit… I’m pretty proud of it !
But I have to tell you, the initial idea was to transform a simple black bathing suit. During one of my many trips to Salvation army (Salvos here in Australia) always looking for this black bathing suit (you’d think it would be easy to find right ? well it’s not) I stumbled upon this thing and went to show it to my boyfriend all excited that I finally found (almost) what I’d been looking for.
« It’s not gonna fit » he says with a surprised look
insulted I go and try it on « What are you talking about, it fits perfectly fine »
I spend my 2$ to buy this great piece and get to work the next day
The idea was to use a little piece of embroidered mesh I bought months ago to create a sexy decolleté on a bathing suit (and wear it as a top).
I start cutting and to my great surprise.. there’s ALREADY mesh in this thing… after further inspection I realize… these are actually granny panties !!!!
I go tell this to Mr. man who says « well yeah ! I didn’t understand why you weren’t laughing when you bought them ! » ………………. This man let me buy granny panties at salvation army to make a DIY and wasn’t even SURPRISED……. Should I marry him or dump him ?
Anyways, here’s the tutorial so you can transform granny panties into a sexy DIY top ! But to be able to get this over your boobs… you’re gonna have to be small chested (I’m sorry larger chested friends… I am not forgetting about you I WILL make that bathing suit DIY some day and everyone will be able to get in on the sideboob action !)
To make this embroidered top you need :
- The Granny Panties (probably a size up to make sure you can actually wear it as a top) *
- Bugle beads
- Miyuki beads (pearl colored here)
- Needle and thread
*Make sure there are the 2 layers including the mesh one (I checked in “regular” stores and most seem to have that !!)
- Cut a slit through the first layer (leave the mesh intact !) about 20 cm long
- fold the sides over to uncover the triangle of see through-ness (you could actually stop here and skip to step 6 and be done if your don’t feel like embroidering)
- Thread your needle and go through the mesh a few times where you want to start embroidering
- First embroider a straight line of miyuki beads. String a few beads, poke your needle through, come back out before the last bead go through it and put some beads on and continue until the end.
- When your line is over, add the bugle beads on each side of your line. (images to help) Like for the eagle necklace
- Sew the folded sides of the first layer (you could have done this at the beginning)
That’s it ! wear with jeans or a skirt and NO ONE will believe this is underwear !!
